TEP’s winery experience spans all facets of HVAC, plumbing and refrigeration systems for winery production and hospitality facilities. The founding partners of TEP started designing winery systems in the late 1980’s and have a portfolio of over 600 winery projects. Our expertise includes cooling and heating of barrel rooms, caves, wine tanks and hospitality venues. We also design night air cooling systems, CO2 evacuation systems, humidification systems for barrel storage rooms, must cooling and heating systems, bottling line utilities and radiant cooling for caves. Our plumbing systems engineering experience includes high efficiency water heating, CO2 heat pump and solar thermal water heating, boiler and hot water storage, compressed air systems, nitrogen generators, process waste, and recycled water systems design.
While the general parameters of winery needs have not changed a great deal over the years, the mechanical systems used have evolved to be more energy efficient and environmentally sensitive. We have designed one LEED platinum winery, three LEED Gold wineries, and one Living Building Challenge certified winery.
Our clients range from small super premium wineries such as Harlan Estate, Brand Napa Valley and Colgin Cellars to large production facilities such as Bogle, Sutter Home and Gallo.
We have witnessed the advent of reduced water use requirements, power systems that function through PG&E power outages, reduced dependence on fossil fuel combustion and greater use of renewable and environmentally friendly materials, and shifts in types of refrigerants.
